Lorn Lambier Howard was born on November 28, 1917 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia and the University of Illinois at Urbana. Dr. Howard served his country as a radioman 2nd class and electronic technician 2nd class in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1946. In 1941 he married Etha Johannaber, and they had three children.
